Personal statement

Daniele Barbera prior joining the AFRC within the NMIS, worked as a Research Associate in the School of Engineering at the University of Glasgow between 2017-2023.  He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (2017) a MEng in Aerospace Engineering (2013) and a BSc in Material Science (2010)  from the University of Strathclyde, University of Rome "La Sapienza" and "Tor Vergata" respectively.

​His main areas of research are process modelling using finite element analysis. His research activities involved the use of both commercial and open source finite element analysis. He has expertiese in modelling inertia friction welding and incremental flow forming and also posses high-temperature structural integrity expertiese.

This project aims to create an integrated platform for the fully automated design, simulation, and digitalization of the cogging process, using advanced tools such as easy2forge, FORGE, and qobeo. The platform will provide engineers with easy access to cogging process design and optimisation. By automating and digitizing the cogging process design, the platform will facilitate better data collection, storage and management, providing fundamental support to the digital transformation of cogging operations.
